Young Living tests every batch of essential oils in triplicate two times during the production process. Here is a list of all the tests they perform. It ends up being around 15-20 tests depending on the oil tested as some oils do not need certain tests.

Refractometry (Refractive Index) (refractive indices of gases)
Polarimetry (passing polarized light)
Optical Rotation (rotation of the plane of polarization)
Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-MS) (Detects metals at extremely low concentrations)
Inductively Coupled Plasma- Atomic Optical Emission (ICP-OES) (Detects trace metals)
High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) (separate, identify, and quantify each component in mixture)
Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) (absorption or emission of solid, liquid, or gas)
Automated Micro-Enumeration (listing elements)
Disintegration Testing (breakdown rate)
pH Testing (acidity or alkalinity)
Flashpoint (check for contamination or adulteration)
Microscopy (look at cells)
Combustibility (catch on fire)
Chiral Chromatography (separation of optical isomers)
Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IR-MS) (abundance of isotopes)
Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) (chemicals are separated and identified)
Organoleptic Testing (transfer of taste or odor to packaging)
All of these tests are done three times on each batch. If the batch makes it through all the tests, once it goes to bottling, it is tested again, all tests in triplicate.
It takes 20 people just over a week to test each batch.
